Help with my wireless internet connection?
I'm pretty sure the problem is my router, but i don't know how to fix it.
My wireless internet use to work fine until i moved. I have a belkin wireless G router. Every time i plug in one of the ethernet cords into the wired computer slot the light on the router turns orange instead of it normally being green. Also the wireless light is never on anymore.
The first thing that you need to determine is that your cable/dsl/fiber modem has access to the Internet.
To do this:
Plug the Ethernet cable coming out of your modem directly into your computer.
Unplug the power cable from your modem wait about 10 seconds then plug the power cable back into the modem.
After about a minute or so check to see if your computer can access the Internet.
If it can't access the Internet then you need to call your Internet provider because (most likely) the connection isn't setup.
If you can access the Internet then continue with the steps:
Next lets hook up the router.
Unplug Ethernet from your computer and plug it into the Internet or WAN port of your router. This is NOT going to be the four LAN ports usually labeled 1,2,3,4.
Now lets turn the modem off then back on like we did earlier. Unplug power cable from modem wait about 10 seconds then plug it back in.
Now using a second Ethernet cable plug your computer into one of the LAN ports on the back of the router. These will usually be labeled 1,2,3,4.
If you cannot access the Internet then the router is (most likely) bad. At this point you can try pushing the reset button in the back of the router using a ball point pen. If you can access the Internet then unplug the computer and try connecting wirelessly.
It is possible but not very likely that just the wireless portion of the router went out. Usually the wired portion goes out first/also.
