can i use the same welder?
I currently have a MIG welder, but having trouble with it penetrating through the 3/4 inch plate im welding, i did some reading about flux cored arc welders (FCAW) and they say they have better penetration. It might be a simple question, but is it possible to use the FCAW wire in my MIG welder? or do they use a totally different machine? As im aware there is two different types of FCAW welding, i would use the dual shield method.
I need to know the max amperage of your welder.
Assuming that you are running ).035" wire now/
If the welder amps are 250 or better, then yes you can
run a 0.045 dual shield wire.
You will need .045 drive rollers. They are serrated to gently
grip the wire and force it through the liner.
Use caution setting the drive roller tension as you can crush
the dual shield wire
You also need a liner that will accept 0.045 wire.
Also a package of 0.045 tips.
Your local welding supplier can supply you with everything
you need.
The gas mixture can effect weld penetration but for normal
welding, the CO2 gas is adequate. The mixed gases are
spendy.
Hope this helps
