What's the difference between a switch, a 3-way switch and a "remote"?
I'm replacing the switches and plugs in my house. I want them all to match, so I'm going to replace all my plugs and switches from the original 1970's ones to more modern, attractive ones such as Leviton's Acenti or Decora switches. I'm a little confused about the differences between a "remote" and a "3-way" switch. Can anyone explain what I want one or the other for?
I knew what a single-pole and 3-way were (or thought I did). But the "remote" word had me confused. It seems that a "remote" is a switch that is like a 3-way, except that it can accommodate 4 (or even more) switches in a single circuit. It's a sort of "super 3-way". It's not wireless.
