Any idea how to fit (safely) a cast iron fireplace for use?
Ive bought a victorian cast iron fireplace off ebay in mint condition. It has the mantle, surround and grate.. everything you need to start a log fire! However, the place we want to put it in our new house is the perfect size but when I had the chimney sweep round he said it all needed sealing and fitting properly to use it for a fire as there was soot all round where the previous owners of the house had had theirs. (So they hadn't sealed it properly).
Any ideas how to do this? There are two tabs at the bottom which I think are meant to slot into something (we have nothing for them to slot into!) Also a plate either side of the mantle which is meant to screw into the wall.. if anyone knows of any website or anywhere to get info on how to do this it would be much appreciated!!!

Sorry. 'Proper fitting for safe operation is a job for a pro.
The flue needs to bo properly sealed to the fireplace, and proper
ventilation/clearance from flammable material around the box
needs to be observed.
(You actually get room heat from the vent around the firebox with a proper installation.)
