Lights going out on the car - this one might out-fox even the foxiest of you out there....!?
I have something so weird going on, that I would gladly pay money to find out the reasoning behind it - if only I knew who to ask! At a certain point on a country road near my village, the lights on my car suddenly switch themselves off at night. Not always, but every few weeks whilst travelling down that road I will suddenly be plunged into darkness. It always happens on the same stretch of road (within about a half mile range) and turning the lights off and back on again always does the trick. This is pretty much in the middle of nowhere (Northampton to West Haddon road if anyone knows it!) and I can't think of an explanation for it. Has anyone got ANY ideas at all? BTW, it has only happened with one car in our house, our other car has never suffered this problem, but given that it has never occurred on any other stretch of road, it's got to be more than 'just' the car's electrics? Any ideas much appreciated.....
It could be mobile phone transmitter related.
On that road there is a transmitter just outside west haddon and On the A428 there is a group of 3 just past railway line as you are heading away from northampton and another one next to the line, there is another group or transmitters at new duston but i would say the group of 3 are causing your problem.
If you stop in that area to have a look for them, do not turn off the car but also do not leave the car with keys in and running as the doors could lock on you, turning it off could be bad as in that area you might find it won't start until towed further away.
This all sounds like sci-fi but being in the auto recovery business for many years this sort of thing is becoming more common with modern in car systems and more mobile transmitters being installed.
Had to tow a few cars away from petrol stations that have transmitters in price sign posts etc and started them up a mile down the road.
