Just added a vanity light bar in the bathroom. The bathroom had a vanity mirror with built in lighting and built in switch originally and I replaced it with a new mirror with no lights. I recently added a light bar, which doesn't have it's own switch, using the existing wiring. The problem is that the existing wiring isn't on the breaker with the light switch, it's on a separate breaker with the wall outlet. SO, there is constant power to the new light with no way of cutting it off. As long as there are bulbs screwed in, they're burning. I'm wanting to add a switch in line just to the vanity light without effecting the outlet. Do I have to install a regular wall switch or can I get just some type of small toggle switch. The smaller and less noticeable the better. Do I just run the house wires to the switch and then run the wiring from the switch to the light bar?
What you need is a combination GFCI receptacle/switch. This fits in the single gang box that the receptacle is in currently. You should be able to find this at Home Depot or Lowe's. Hope this helps.
