Vertical TIG: what amps to use for root when welding two beveled pieces of 1/2" steel plate together?
1/8" tungsten, big shop machine. For horizontal, I used 130A for root and 145 for fill and cap. I'm thinking I should use lower amps for vertical position, but how much less?

Generally the rule of thumb is 1 amp per .001" inch of thickness. So if the bottom of the bevel is .125" you would set it at around 125 amps +/- 5.
