Before beginning painting a bathroom, I discovered a hole where the water connects to the toilet. Patch it?
There used to be wall paper, so it was covered up. there's also a small hole around the light switch plate, which was covered by wallpaper. Is there an easy way to patch it up, or would it look alright to just paint what's there?
There's supposed to be a decorative flange around the pipe where it exits from the wall. If there isn't, and you don't want to remove the valve and install one, just patch it using spackle or drywall patching compound.
Voids around electrical plates (switch, outlet, etc), are a bit of a safety hazard if there are children in the house; kids will stick stuff into places like that, and if they do that with a metal object or wire, it could be fatal, so yes, patch it.
