why does my christmas lights throw the safety on my outside outlet?
i have 9-10 strands of christmas lights on my house. they are all hooked together on one outdoor extension cord. all the lights are LED and the box says i can connect 23 strands to one outlet. however, when i plug the extension cord into my outdoor outlet, the safety switch flips every time and my lights go out. what would cause this?
There is some type of ground fault on the cord or the lights and rain is the first thing that comes to mind. Is anything wet? Unplug the lights from the cord then plug in the cord, if the GFI trips the problem is in the cord. If the GFI does not trip then start plugging in the lights one string at the time till you find the trouble maker. Enjoy the holidays!!!!
