Rumors and news reports have been constantly covering the new allegations that Ben and Jerrys would switch over animal cow milk to Human breast milk. I for one am not against it and would consider becoming a volunteer
And newsmongerers stopped really covering this story in September of 2008 when Ben and Jerry's said "No Thank You". PETA sent the letter to B&J in response to a purported Switzerland restaurant that has added food made with breast milk to its menu.
No-one wants breast milk in their food--keep it in there, unless you are wanting to donate to a hospital milk bank for children whose mom's can't produce enough and can't take formula. I can't believe that there are actually women out in the 21st century who would promote themselves for use as a cow...but apparently there are. I remember that NOW had a field day with this last year when the proposal was made by PETA...a survey was conducted at my university for one of my business classes to find out what the general opinion was for this proposal. The surveyers found that the opinion for this was a resounding NO (somewhere around 99.7 percent of an approximate 5,000 surveyed consisting of both professors and students) on all grounds.
Had Ben and Jerry's even considered the proposal, I guarantee you that the business would have gone under--the American public would have abandoned them for even thinking about the reply too long. In a country where it is frequently seen as uncomfortable, distasteful, or inappropriate for a mother to nurse in public, there is no way that they would consume a product made with human by-products. I actually believe that there are laws preventing that type of practice anyway due to the fact that human to human disease spread could be a concern.
