Difference between 2 types of LED's?
I just bought 28 surface mount led's for my xbox controllers and xbox itself and i've seen places saying buy smd and ive seen places saying buy smt and im wondering what the difference is? There 0603 leds if it helps.
SMD stands for "surface mount device". SMT stands for "surface mount technology". In the description of electronic components, both are referring to surface mount components. Another type is through-hole component which has axial leads on the component to pass through the soldering hole in a PCB. Through-hole components are generally larger in size and mostly replaced by surface mount components in contemporary electronic products.
0603 is area form factor for electronic components. It is an area of 60 mil by 30 mil. There are other form factors such as 0402, 0805, 1206, etc.
The form factor of the component should match with corresponding soldering copper trace on PCB.
