Tips needed. Thanks
All of the suggestions so far are pretty good.
If you really want the room to seem bigger though, the most important factors are:
1. Keep out the clutter. Aside from the junk that collects on a daily basis, you need to trim down the accessories to a bare minimum. Choose only the things you love the most as display pieces, and try to limit yourself to 3 items that express you. Put the rest away where they are easy to get to, and change them out to suit your mood. Organization is king!
2. Avoid small things. For instance, if you have 1 large piece of artwork on the wall, it will do more to give a sense of space than several smaller pieces. By the same token, one over sized piece of furniture will also give the illusion of space more than a couple of smaller pieces.
3. In a room that size, I would forgo placing a large mirror in the room to give the illusion of space, and go with a very large piece of artwork. You already have a large window, so you probably have plenty of light.
4a. Another good trick here is to keep the window as a focal point of the room. Try to arrange your furniture so that you can see outside at all times without any obstructions in the view, so it will make the view a part of the decor.
4b. Try to find a decorating scheme that compliments the view. This will make the view a visual extension of your room. If the view is standard back yard fare, try something natural. If your view is a city, something more architectural would be a good idea. If you live in a commercial area, try a more industrial style decor.
5. As many things as possible in the room should be dual-function. Useable furniture that also serves as storage will be a big help in keeping down the clutter. Someone mentioned the bed with the dresser underneath, for instance. Other good ideas are ottomans with built in storage, shelving units with built in lighting, decorative baskets/boxes that can be used as storage as well as serve a function as display pieces, etc.
I'm not sure about the turquoise either... turquoise may make the room seem very depressing in bad weather or in the evenings. Depending on the shade it may take on a grayish pallor.
Whatever you do, I wish you well with your project.
