Red ring of death or similar problem?
Yesterday, The area I live in was hit by the remnants of hurricane/tropical storm Ike. We set record wind speeds and have been experiencing power problems. I was playing on Xbox Live at the time and a few times I was kicked off and my Xbox 360 went into some sortof standby mode, flashing a full ring of red. I figured it was just a power surge problem and haven't had any problem since. But the same thing happened to my PC later that evening. I was chatting away on AIM when it randomly shutdown... not the "Please wait, saving your settings" type shutdown... but a *typing on minute* *dead the next*. Comments or suggestions please?
Brown out, caused by low voltage, low current or both. If you were using a UPS as all good computer gurus suggest you should, you wouldn't have noticed, and your systems would have been protected from power spikes too.
Get a UPS, use it. Your equipment will thank you, especially during your next really big thunderstorm.
