When I engage 1st gear, the bike starts to pull forwards even with the clutch lever pulled hard. I've tried adjusting the clutch cable and the adjusment bolt under the clutch cover. Even with the clutch adjusted right out (when it starts to slip), it stil drags.
It doesn't slip when engaged so I don't think the plates are worn? Any ideas? Streched cable? I'm not too sure about motorbike clutches? Do they have a pressure plate?
I've got the manual cheers pal, the oil in there looked like shite, I will change the gearbox oil and have another go at adjusting it and report back
The oil did seem thin yes, how would water contaminate the gearbox oil? Does the box have coolant galleries in it? Surely if they fail thats that? New gearbox / engine and gearbox?
A two stroke like this shouldn't discolour the oil in the gearbox unless the clutch has been raced, this can burn the oil and buckle the clutch plates and cause drag.
The only way around this problem is to replace the clutch friction and intermediate plates, and obviously fresh oil.
If the oil was a milky colour it has been contaminated with water, possibly coolant, this can also cause the friction material to swell and become soft, guess what - clutch drags.
Change the oil like you say (please use the right stuff, not car engine oil), and give the bike a run it may take a few miles to get the contamination out of the plates if it was water.
