Solar help: Would this diode and controller be ok and work?
A 12V solar panel is rated 3.6A. Assuming you get the max output from it, would there be a problem if:
(a) You use a blocking diode that's rated just 3A
AND
(b) You were to connect it to a battery and charge controller that's only rated 12V, 3A?
Thanks, I was thinking a 4A would be ok. Would the 3A diode and controller be ok if the panel was outputting say 2-2.5A? This way, you're below the thereshold of the diode and controller so they won't get burned out.
I would not use a 3A part in a 3.6A circuit. You are asking for trouble. Diodes are cheap, use something around 5Amps.
