I'm re-doing my room and fixing this and that and painting. I usually hire someone to do that but I wanted to save money and decided to do this by myself (my first time painting btw lol) So I was at the dollar store to buy some sandpaper and I noticed they had things there that I never knew they had...like some wall outlet covers and wall receptacles. I bought a few since mine needed a face lift. My brother said I should've never purchased it from there because it's not safe and they blow out after a while. Is that true? Oh and how do I get someone to install it for me, since I can't do it myself. Thanks to all that answer.
Holli- It's basically the same price if I were to get it from Home Depot, but I just got it from the dollar store..so what's the difference?
If it is made by Leviton co. , it is the same one that home depot & hardware stores sell. The only real difference in outlets are the amperage rating & wiring application. If this room is not a kitchen or bath a 15 amp rating is fine. Personally I do not care for the push in connector types , it's always better to wrap the wires on the terminals & snug them tight. Black wire or wires to the gold screws, White wire or wires to the silver screws , Ground wire (bare copper) to green screw at bottom of outlet. Any handyman type guy should be able to help you out.Be sure to turn off the breaker before you start. A handy tool to have around the house is a simple plug tester, ( 5 or 6 bucks at home depot , etc. ) this will tell you if the outlet is wired correctly & if not what the problem is. Good luck!
