Metal Welding Unit
Question about winches?

I have an opportunity to get a winch, but I have no clue about them. From my Googling, I see the are usually hard mounted somewhere on the vehicle. The item I would be moving is fairly light (200 lbs). How can I mount a winch in my truck bed without welding anything? Could I them attached too the metal hoops that are in the truck bed? I saw a video where a guy simply used a portable battery jump unit to run the winch so power is not the issue; I just don't know how to attach it.

The hooks in the bed of a truck are good tie down points but you couldn't use them to mount a winch.

Winches that are bolted to the surface of a flat bed trailer are usually bolted to or around the trailer frame or to a backing plate on the back side.

You could take the same approach in the bed of the pickup. However, if you do not really need the winch in the bed, I would suggest finding a hitch mounted winch plate and use that instead. It is a stable platform and can be removed when not needed that way you don't have to leave the winch exposed outside.
