Ok I have 2 12V marine batteries that are hooked up together as one. Can I just use a regular Marine charger to charge both of them at the same time? Thanks
If in parallel the charger and circuit will see one battery of 12 V and the combined capacity of all batteries.
If in series the charger and circuit will see one battery of 24 V and the capacity of the smallest individual battery.
The batteries must be of identical types and structure - capacity is not important if the batteries are of the same structure and good condition, so a battery of half the capacity is quite capable of being connected with a larger in parallel, both batteries will charge and deliver their rated capacity - but in series this would be avoided, as the larger battery capacity is half wasted in the circuit, and can stress the smaller during charging and discharge.
A car battery is simply a group of 2 V cells in a single container connected in series to deliver 12 V nominally at the terminal posts.
