Growing Herbs in my house?
I have never grown herbs before (I have never grown anything before). I live in Michigan and since we have a ton of snow I would like to grow some fresh herbs in my house. Would that be easy? I just want a few small plants to grow in my kitchen to use as needed. Of course I have no idea what I am doing and if it is possible. Dr Oz was talking about using fresh herbs and all their benefits so I wanted to give it a try. Any advice?
I would start with a couple of pots of very easy to grow herbs. Put them in a bright window in your apartment.
Some suggestions: Rosemary - oooh it smells heavenly and has a variety of uses. It needs bright sun and well drained soil not overly watered. It is very hearty and easy to maintain in a pot.
Mint of any kind. Keeping it in a pot is best as it can be a pest if you ever try to grow it outside. It's not only easy to grow it's impossible almost to kill lol. Just stick it in a pot in a window and water it sometimes it will grow just fine.
Basil is a good one that isn't too fussy about the soil you use. make sure it drains well and sit it in a bright window and it will grow well for you also.
Lemon Balm is yummy in the summer in Tea and it grows easily in a pot.
Oregano is pretty easy to grow also as are Basil and Sage. All very good on a variety of dishes.
Pick up a beginners herb gardening book or you can even by starter kitchen herb garden sets that will give you instructions. It's not hard at all. Herbs are one of the easiest things to do when you start growing things.
