Hi all. I've read tons of answers on how to measure electricity by putting a device between the plug and the socket ("kill-a-watt" for example). I have one too - works like a charm.
But my boiler for the heating doesn't have a visible plug and I don't want to cut the wire. I'd love to know how much electricity it actually uses though.
Physically speaking, you can also deduct the current (ampere) of a wire if you measure the electrical field and know the average voltage and distance to the electrical source. Is there any device that uses this physical effect?

A clamp-on ammeter will measure the current in a wire without breaking the wire.
You will need access to the individual wires (line and neutral) so that you can clamp it round either one of them (but not both).
