Are there many opportunities in small engine repair?
When I finish high school I'm thinking of training to go into Industrial/Marine diesel repair, the HVAC program or small engine repair (including motorcycles, ATVs, etc.).
Are there many opportunities to be had in this sector? I'm very, very close to applying for a program so I'm seeking out some info before I do.
I would say yes. Many of the lawn mower shops I deal with are usually packed to the gills with repairs in the spring and through most of the summer. I started my own shop a little over 8 years ago in my back yard shop and it just gets busier every year.
One thing to keep in mind though, it is for the most part a seasonal occupation. Even though there are many different winter tools and ATVs, the business slows to nearly a stop. Here in Texas, the down season is only about 3 months out of the year.
