HHO generator questions.?
I want to run my lawnmower from water it is a school project.
Now for the questions....
1.In my first HHO generator i get a black sludge...when dried it is a deep red...What is it.....Iron Oxide???
2.The gas once generated should go into the air intake of the mower right??
3.What metal should I use as an anode cathode?????
4.Salt or Baking soda to make water conductive(or something else)??
5.How much Voltage/Amperage should i give the generator???
Any other ideas or links you have would be helpful
And how much salt or baking soda do i need per gallon of water???
1. The black sludge is likely from using tap water. If it is a reddish "rust" looking sludge, it is the reaction of using baking soda. Even with 316l stainless steel electrodes - baking soda will eat right through them in time and cause the water to appear rusty.
Use Distilled water, and if you are brave enough - NaOH is a perfect electrolyte as it doesn't eat the electrodes or dirty the water. It also requires less per container than when using baking soda.
2. yes, but this won't run your lawnmower soley off HHO. You need to inject it in place of the fuel line for that.
3. That is up to you. There are plenty of reasons to vary what metal you use dependent upon what electrolyte you choose and how many amps you are looking to waste. High grade stainless steel will longer resist deterioration, but will waste amps and not produce as much HHO as metals with a little iron in them (such as a lower grade stainless - ferritic).
4. As per my first answer, baking soda is bad on the plates and over time - will eventually turn into NaOH (most people who swear by baking soda don't know that part).
If you use table salt, wear some protective gear and you may also need permission from the authorities depending upon where you live. Iodine table salt -when electrocuted in water- produces chlorine gas. The nazis used it.
5. More amps = more HHO gas, but also means all the faster you deplete your battery or power source.
