saltwater coral lighting help?
I have a saltwater tank and i want to start adding the more colorful stuff like clams, anenomies, coral etc.. but i need to get the lighting for it and i was told that the best was the metal halide light but i cant seem to find it for under 500 dollars for my tank size which is a standard 75 gallon tank but i found some thing on petsmart.com and im not sure if its the right light for what im tryin to do. It is the "Coralife Deluxe Series Aqualight Double Linear Strip Fixture and Lamps" and it comes with...
Two on/off switches with two 8-foot power cords for separate timers
Built-in ballasts
Two cooling fans
Sleek aluminum housing
Highly-polished reflector
Acrylic lens cover
Comes with two 65W 10,000K and two 65W True Actinic 03 Blue straight pin base compact fluorescent lamps
Fixture measures 48"L x 7"W x 2 1/2"H
Voltage frequency: 120V 60Hz
Power: 120W
Now what im wondering is , is this the right light for what im tryin to do if not where should i look
i have a smaller one for my 20 high.24''
But anyway, yes it is something you can use. While it isnt super fancy... it does a good job for the price.
The thing is, it needs the lunar lights. The lunar lights are key for corals as you will need to run the system on a 12/12 hour periods. That is how to keep your corals in good shape.
It is a good system and it is good for basic reef setups, if your looking to have a super reef system, then the lighting will of course be alot more. But this is a good basic system that will be fine, again make sure it has lunar lights, but i believe all coral lights do.
