Inexpensive options to cat proof screened porch?
The cats see a squirrel just outside the porch and push the old fiberglass screen with their noses until it pulls away from the staples behind the trim. The porch is so large that petscreen is too expensive right now. Replacing the old fiberglass screen with aluminium is affordable, but I'm afraid it won't be tough enough to prevent them from pushing it out. I thought about adding garden wire (2 inch square metal fencing) over the screen on the bottom half of the porch, but wonder if that would be tacky. Are there other materials I could add over the bottom half that would be inexpensive and nearly unnoticeable?
Hi Yuma:
Obviously I don't know how your set up looks there, but your situation sounds kind of like one I was in a few years back.
After trying different things, a friend recommended PLEXI-GLASS. It's basically big sheets of clear plastic/acrylic cut to the size you need. I don't know what it's going for now, but it can't be much more than it was a few years ago. Back then I went to Home Depot and had them cut me a piece about three feet by five feet, and I think it was like $11.00 or something like that.
I think it's a great way to block animals, kids, etc. because you can see through it so it doesn't "shrink" your space and it's sturdy.
Hope this helps! Goodluck!
