I bought a GE 60 minute in-wall Timer Switch from Home Depot and want to install it for my bathroom exhaust fan. Coming from the box in the wall are one black wire, one white wire and a bare copper wire. The GE switch has a Black ,Red , White , and Green . Which wires do I connect? Or do I need to get a different wall switch ? I'm Replacing a Intermatic Heavy-Duty Digital 7 Day Wall Switch Timer SS7C that was installed when they built the house . The Intermatic model had Blue, Black and Red wires , and the Red Wire was disconnected .
Do not tie bare ground wire to white on switch, that is a no no.
You may have a switch with a electric timer motor and you do not have a common (neutral) in your switch box.
I would exchange that timer for one that is a mechanical one that you turn to a desired time.
You have a hot and return in your switch box and usually the white is hot and the black is the return to fan.
