Is rhodium-plated white gold toxic?
Hi,
I bought my wife a white gold wedding band w/ tiny diamonds from Kay Jewelers (I'm upset w/ myself because I was being cheap). With our two-year anniversary coming up, I'm thinking I should get her a platinum ring because I'm worried that the rhodium on and the nickel in the white gold ring (which is turning brownish...) are toxic to her. The money's not an issue, because it's my wife's health. Would switching to platinum (which is her engagement ring metal) be any better?

Go with gold - it is without a doubt the least toxic. Furthermore, rhodium and platinum are far too valuable and useful in industrial catalysts to be used in jewelry. Gold is the most resistant to oxidation (tarnishing) too.
