Crafsman garage door opener stopped working by remote or wall switch. Red light in wall switch is out also.?
This is a craftsman 1/2 horse power chain drive opener probably 15 years old (pre-safety beam sensors). Short of stripping a gear that I was able to replace it has been reliable since I bought the house 5 years ago. One morning the little red light in the wall button was out and the door wouldn't work at all. Any troubleshooting suggestions short of buying a new one?
It sounds like a power issue. That would be the 1st thing to check. Either the outlet it's plugged into, or the circuit if it's hardwired. Also, some units have a thermal overload switch which shuts off the power if it gets too hot. It should reset automatically when it cools off but if somethings wrong with it ... 15 years is a good long life for a garage opener; especially a chain drive! Hope mine lasts that long. good luck
