I was thinking about starting a business...?
I want to start a shuttle from a place to Boston Logan Airport. There would be busses that keep on going back and forth from the airport to the station.
I realized that I would need to be able to communicate with the busses. I know that walkie talkies wouldn't be in the range. I thought about cell phones, and I realized that bus drivers may not be using the phone for communicating to the station or the other busses.
Then I realized that I needed to purchase something like a CB radio system. If you on't know what I mean, the communicating devices that school busses and trucks use.
I don't know where to get one, or even how much they are. Can anybody tell me more about it, like where I can buy one, and how much they are?
The answering person mentioning Ham radio is incorrect. Ham (amateur radio) is not used for business. This service requires all users to have an individual license.
CB radio could work for your business... depending on how far apart the dispatch center is from the longest distance the busses will be. Bear in mind, CB is open to the public, and you could get a lot of interference, deliberate or otherwise. You could equip each vehicle for under $100.
Your best bet is the Business Radio Service. You are looking at some serious money though.... maybe $500 to equip each vehicle, and a lot more for the dispatch center.
