i have a circuit that's out, its not GFI, its not bad breaker, what else could it be?
have a circuit that went out, breaker is good, no gfi on circuit, and i don't see any burnt up wiring around outlets or switches, wire is copper. what else could it be, i just need anything to try...I AM NOT CALLING AN ELECTRICIAN ITS OUT OF THE QUESTION!
Most likely you have a feed through problem at one of the receptacles. Take a voltage meter and check from the equipment ground lug to the short narrow slot at a receptacle. The wide slot is the neutral. You may be losing a neutral instead of a hot.
If you do read 120 volts from ground to hot then you have a loose neutral probably at a receptacle somewhere on that circuit. If you do not read power from ground to hot then go to each receptacle that is out or on that circuit and back the two screws out and pull the rec. from the box.
Take note if the wires are lugged in on the sides or if they are pushed into holes in the back of the rec. That's called quick wired and if that is the case then most likely that will be the problem at one of the receptacles. Strip the end of the wire and put a curl in it and then put each wire under the side lug and tighten.
There will probably be a receptacle that is still hot on that circuit and that could be where you find the problem. Check them all until you locate the one that is not feeding on through.
Hope this helps.
