Need help building a wind mill?
At my home we always have a constant breeze of 3-5 mph. just about all hours of the day, I was wondering what motor or modifications to a motor you would recomend in order to get the most voltage from the least amount of turns of the windmill blades?
Why use windmill blades at all?
For most windmill applications one over riding truth is that surface area = power. After all, how many sail boats use handkerchiefs?
But, if you insist on letting most of the wind blow right by your house unused, then I suggest you greatly increase the speed of your gearing first, then worry about turns. Gear up the revolutions of your every turn (or the affecting magnets) and you will heat less and generate more. Also, bear in mind the armatures. If they get hot your loosing power.
I know some people who think that a copper disk generator, sealed into a glass enclosure, "brushed" with mercury and damped with carbon is nearly the perfect thing. Personally, I want to try sodium in-cased in glass instead of copper (for cheapness) with through wires for conduction to the rim.
But, I'm a de@dbeat dad. Thus this conserfative government deems me "undesirable enough to afford civil rights such as patents". For me, the court deems patents a revoked privilege. And as what I might build would be a tool made with tools, neither of which conserfatives "allow" the unclean thing (the liberal me) to own...
