Is it possible to get water out of this well?
I have a 2" pipe going to about 15 foot depth. It sits just under a 5' limerock shelf. Under that is sugar sand, and water is at around 19 feet. I put a PVC pipe with a foot valve in, but when I use the pump, I get a little spit of water, then nothing. The sugar sand clogs the foot valve up very quickly.
I've heard I could get a mud pump and pump out the sugar sand, but that runs the risk of creating a sink hole. I've also heard I can dump a bunch of little rocks down there to act as a filter. Does anyone know a way to keep the sugar sand out of the foot valve? I want me some water!
fatchick, did you even read the question?
What would happen if you put a valve in so the pump can only move a very small amount of water, not enough to attract the sand clog. The pump could very slowly fill a pre loaded bladder tank so you will end up with a good reserve supply while not stirring up the sand.
Another possibility would be to rig up a filter. I am thinking of those filters which are used on drip irrigation systems. They are very fine, and have a lot of surface area. One of those could be installed in the end of the pvc.
